Chesapeake Supports Second Chances for Students Overcoming Adversity

September 27, 2021

Chesapeake is pleased to announce a new partnership with OSU-OKC’s Center for Social Innovation (CFSI) designed to help students who’ve overcome barriers to further their education and make important contributions to their local communities. CFSI students participate in various trainings and coursework, while also interning with businesses across Oklahoma City to gain practical workplace experience. Two students will join Chesapeake this fall, serving as interns with our IT and Employee Services teams.

“Chesapeake has a long history of investing in Oklahoma City students through our mentoring program, and this partnership is a natural extension,” said Katie Mangus, Chesapeake Sr. Manager – Talent Operations. “We’re proud to support CFSI students as they work to better their lives. Through their bright futures, we’re helping to lead a responsible energy future.”

CFSI is as a professional, career-development program that specializes in helping individuals with adverse backgrounds, such as mental health disorders, addiction, incarceration, homelessness and domestic violence. Participants are students at OSU-OKC pursuing a variety of degrees, including graphic design, small business management, accounting, marketing, social work, IT and more.

The program offers an opportunity to grow beyond a college degree. In addition to attending classes, participants take part in trainings that develop important leadership and organizational skills. For example, students participate in a spinoff of Toastmaster to instill public speaking confidence and have a club called Things That Matter through which they organize community outreach projects. They also attend sessions facilitated by industry leaders who share important lessons learned while building their careers.
