Recognizing Rig of the Quarter: Deep Well Rig #6

August 21, 2023
  • Deep Well Rig #6 (Marcellus) was named Rig of the Quarter for 2Q’23.
  • The Rig of the Quarter is a traveling award that honors contractors who have led company standards.
  • Deep Well Rig #6 led CHK workover rigs with two Good Catch successes and has made efforts to engage vendor leadership and increase HSER presence in the field.

Chesapeake’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Regulatory (HSER) team recently awarded Deep Well Rig #6 (Marcellus) the Rig of the Quarter for 2Q’23. The Rig of the Quarter is a traveling award that honors contractors who have led company standards, recognizing the important role contractors play in Chesapeake’s safety and environmental performance.

Deep Well Rig #6 led Chesapeake workover rigs with two Good Catch successes. Through this program, employees and contractors submit outstanding HSER performance or instances when Stop Work Authority was used to address a concern. Each month, our executive leadership recognizes employees who best reflect our safety culture and share lessons learned.

To further increase management and HSER presence in the field, this team also initiated engagement with vendors’ leadership to invite them to the field and see work taking place.

“Deep Well Rig #6 has continuously improved their HSE and service quality throughout this quarter,” said Workover Foreman Lucas Welch. “We are proud of their service quality and look forward to continuing our good working relationship.”

The rig crews received a specially designed flag at lunch that will fly on their rig until the next honoree is announced. Quarterly winners are selected by our HSE Workover team, which grades each rig against a scorecard of safety and environmental criteria. These criteria include participation in the company’s Good Catch program, behavioral-based safety performance and engagement/reports within KPA (HSE performance management software).
