  • Chesapeake’s Marcellus team recently partnered with the Pennsylvania Game Commission to reclaim a local construction materials excavation site.
  • Over the three-day event, 32 Chesapeake employees volunteered nearly 130 hours planting shrubs and trees, installing tree protection fencing and distributing over two acres of seeding and mulch.
  • The reclamation project affirms the company’s commitment to its communities and the biodiversity of the areas in which we operate.

Chesapeake’s Marcellus team recently completed a volunteer project that included support from one of the company’s key partners — the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Together with Game Commission staff, 32 Chesapeake employees volunteered nearly 130 hours to reclaim a local site previously used as a stone borrow pit to construct roadways and well pads.

During the three-day event, the group planted 300 shrubs and 180 trees, installed tree protection fencing and distributed over two acres of seeding and mulch. The group chose to use only native plants and seeds in their efforts, including Silky Dogwood, Nine Bark, Crab Apple and Aspen, among others.

Members of both organizations share a commitment to environmental stewardship and wildlife conservation.

“Since part of the Game Commission’s mission is managing and protecting wildlife and their habitats, we couldn’t think of a better partner for this project,” said Josh Lawrence, Marcellus Operations Manager. “Volunteering side-by-side gave us all a sense of commitment to our common community, the land and our future work together.
