Employees Support Communities During National Volunteer Month

May 09, 2024

In April, we celebrated National Volunteer Month by encouraging our employees to use their eight hours of company time to volunteer for the organization or opportunity of their choice.

Employees across the company came together to support their communities in various ways. From helping pack food for children in Pennsylvania to supporting Special Olympics in Louisiana to working with a youth organization in Oklahoma City and more, our team positively impacted the areas where we operate.

Oklahoma City

In Oklahoma City, several company H.E.L.P. events occurred throughout the month in addition to employees organizing their own volunteer opportunities.

Haynesville Project Manager Ryan McDougal coordinated a team of employees to volunteer at Pivot, a nonprofit providing programs, counseling and services to at-risk youth. The group spent time weeding flower beds within the organization’s Tiny Home Community.

“I chose Pivot for our H.E.L.P. project as I was able to get involved with them through my time in Leadership OKC’s LOYAL (young leadership) program this year,” Ryan said. “Pivot is an amazing organization in Oklahoma City that has served our community for more than 50 years. They believe that no youth should have to navigate life alone, and they provide wrap-around services to ensure that youth in need are supported.”

Ryan said he initially learned about Pivot when the agency’s development director spoke at our United Way kick-off last fall.

Additionally in April, 20 employees volunteered at Chesapeake’s water stop to support participants in the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon.

A group of employees also helped with the company’s annual recycling event, where 725 pounds of paper and seven hard drives were shredded and 1,443 pounds of computer equipment, sports gear, expired medication and batteries were purged.

Marcellus

In the Marcellus, employees continued to support CHOP (Child Hunger Outreach Partners) by packing bags of food for children for their monthly H.E.L.P. event.

Employees also helped at environmental events in honor of Earth Day and attended a career day at a local school to share with students more about our industry and the variety of job opportunities.

Haynesville

Our Haynesville team attended and volunteered at the Sabine Parish Schools Special Olympics, where they handed out refreshments to participants and helped set up for the event.

They also participated in the HGM Food pantry distribution day, packing and distributing food boxes to area families. In addition, in late April, the team helped the local Keep America Beautiful chapter hand out tarps for citizens to use for their truck beds to aide in keeping trash off DeSoto Parish roadways.

Volunteer Opportunities Continue

Although National Volunteer Month has come to a close, employees are encouraged to support their communities and continue to use their volunteer hours any time throughout the year. We remain committed to providing monthly opportunities for employees to get involved.
