  • The Rig of the Quarter is Chesapeake’s traveling award that honors contractors who have exceeded company standards.
  • Stone Well Service takes a proactive approach in developing plans and processes to prioritize the safety and well-being of their personnel.

Chesapeake’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Regulatory (HSER) team recently awarded Stone Well Service in the Marcellus the Rig of the Quarter for 3Q23. The Rig of the Quarter is a traveling award that honors contractors who exceed company standards and recognizes the important role contractors play in Chesapeake’s safety and environmental performance.

Recent accomplishments of Stone Well Service include:

  • Implementing consistent safety processes: The team recently developed a “rescue from heights” plan and has a structured rotation for time off for its crews. Both of these processes underscore the team’s dedication to safety, employee well-being and work-life balance.
  • Correcting deficiencies in a timely manner: Rig management and personnel efficiently address deficiencies identified during audits and inspections — a clear indication of the team’s dedication to continuous improvement and safety.
  • Participating in our Good Catch program: This team’s active participation in our Good Catch program showcases a commitment to identifying and rectifying potential issues before they escalate.
  • Involving Operations and HSE management teams: The active involvement of both their Operations and HSE management teams on location underscores the crew’s strong collaborative culture.

“Stone Well Service’s achievements are not only a source of pride for their rig but also serve as an inspiration to our entire organization,” said Harris Marcom, HSE Governance and Workover supervisor. “Their dedication to safety, efficiency and continuous improvement is exemplary, and sets a high standard for others to follow.”

The rig crew received a specially designed flag that will fly on their rig until the next honoree is announced. Quarterly winners are selected by our HSE Workover team, which grades each rig against a scorecard of safety and environmental criteria. These criteria include participation in the company’s Good Catch program, behavioral-based safety performance and engagement/reports within the company’s HSE performance management software.
