Marcellus: Cash Flow Engine
As one of the largest (geographic area) shale plays, the Marcellus Shale resides under eight states. The formation is estimated to be approximately 95,000 square miles with depths from 4,000 to 8,000 feet. It’s one of the largest natural gas fields in the world and may contain up to 410 trillion cubic feet of shale gas — enough to supply U.S. natural gas needs for hundreds of years. Chesapeake is one of the shale’s largest operators with a position concentrated in northeast Pennsylvania.
