Chesapeake to Train 1,000+ Employees in First Aid and CPR

To further our commitment to safety, Chesapeake’s HSER team set an ambitious goal — to train at least 90% of our workforce at various levels of first aid and CPR by the end of the year. Not only will this training increase safety awareness and emergency response within our workplace, but we’ll also be better equipped to serve our communities.

Our HSER team is offering three training opportunities, allowing employees to choose the training method and level that best fits their needs. The trainings launch this week, in honor of National CPR & AED Awareness Week (June 1 – 7), which spotlights how lives can be saved if more people know CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). All training will occur within an employee’s normal working hours and at their local office.

“Learning CPR can save someone’s life and it’s a skill that you’ll be grateful for throughout your lifetime,” said Jake Kimery, Chesapeake Supervisor of Corporate Safety. “Research shows that CPR skills are not prevalent enough, and we want to empower Chesapeake employees to be able to react in an emergency situation at work, at home or in our communities. Any knowledge of first aid is an asset in an emergency.”

Chesapeake’s executive team will be trained this summer, alongside employees who have the choice of signing up for:

• First Aid Awareness training: An approximately 15-minute computer-based training that provides an overview of first aid and major life-saving rules.
• First Aid/CPR/AED training: An instructor-led course that offers more in-depth training on performing CPR and using an AED in the event of cardiac arrest. This course is approximately two hours in length.
• Medic First Aid/CPR/AED training: Approximately four hours long, this class provides certified training for emergency care. Participants will receive their medic/first aid certification.
