Chesapeake Honors World Mental Health Day

October 11, 2022

On Monday, October 10, Chesapeake honors World Mental Health Day — a day that raises awareness of mental health issues and mobilizes support for mental health programs. While we recognize the importance of mental health year-round, this day encourages our employees to pause and check-in on their well-being and seek resources to protect and improve their mental health.

Chesapeake offers a number of benefits to support our employees’ mental health and well-being, including:

  • Employee Assistance Program: Through this program, employees can also access a guidance consultant for no-cost, confidential solutions to some of life’s challenges. The consultant can refer to a local therapist and/or community resources to help with work-life solutions, legal guidance and financial issues. Challenges that the consultant can help with include anxiety and depression, finding child and elder care, divorce and family law, and retirement planning debt reduction. Online resources are also available.
  • Virtual Counseling: When enrolled in a Chesapeake health plan, employees and their covered dependents are automatically enrolled in Teladoc. Teladoc offers phone or video conferencing with medical professionals including therapists and psychiatrists. Teladoc experts can provide support if employees aren’t feeling like themselves, are experiencing relationship conflicts or trauma, or need help managing medication, among other challenges.
  • Well-being Day: New for 2023, every employee will be entitled to a Well-being Day, an additional floating personal day taken at any time during the calendar year. The day is intended to give employees extra time to pause, relax and recharge.

“We want to make it clear that mental health is just as important as physical health and safety at Chesapeake,” said Toni Parks-Payne, Director of Human Resources and Employee Services. “I encourage all Chesapeake employees to explore our benefits and find the right mental health resources to support them and their family.”
