Announcing Rig of the Quarter

November 07, 2022

Chesapeake’s HSER team recently introduced a new recognition program, Rig of the Quarter, to honor contractor performance that goes beyond company standards. HSE Workover team members grade each rig against a scorecard of safety and environmental criteria, including:

  • Participation in the company’s Good Catch program
  • The number of “unsatisfactory findings” and deficiencies documented in the KPA (EHS performance management software) workover inspection form
  • Behavioral-based safety performance (analyzing good catches, follow up and collaboration)
  • Vendor engagement in KPA

“Our workover rig crews are valuable partners in our safety and environmental performance,” said Harris Marcom, Chesapeake HSE Workover Advisor. “The Rig of the Quarter award further encourages us to monitor contractor HSE metrics on a monthly basis, honoring those contractors who are going above and beyond.”

Sanco Rig 9 (South Texas) is the first rig to receive this traveling award. A specially designed flag was presented to the rig crew at a vendor meeting and will fly on the rig for the quarter until the next honoree is announced.

“The Sanco team has incredible attention to detail, always keeps a clean rig and, despite being one of the smallest of our rig contractors in South Texas, exceeds our expectations related to their safety culture, standard operating procedures and preventive maintenance,” said Eric Carter, Chesapeake Workover Superintendent.

The idea for Rig of the Quarter originated in the Eagle Ford but the HSER team plans to expand it to other assets in the future. The award is a collaboration between HSER and operations departments.
